Georgia Wildfire Updates

Families and communities across our state are facing devastating loss as wildfires continue to spread. Please join me in praying for those impacted, as well as the brave firefighters and first responders on the front lines. We are grateful for the tireless efforts of our state, local, and federal partners who are working around the clock to protect their fellow Georgians and bring these fires under control.

On Wednesday, Governor Kemp declared a state of emergency and a burn ban in 91 counties across the state, which allows for every possible state resource to be mobilized to assist with response efforts. The Georgia Forestry Commission is working alongside the U.S. Forest Service, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia Department of Agriculture, the Georgia Department of Public Safety, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, the Georgia Department of Transportation, the National Guard, and local first responders to contain the fires.

At Home in District 159

It is always an exciting opportunity to join the Effingham Chamber of Commerce team for their annual Pancakes and Politics event, where community leaders and business advocates gather to recap the legislative session and look forward to what’s ahead.

From historic income tax relief, property tax reform, and insurance affordability measures, the Georgia House delivered results on the issues that matter most to the future success of communities, businesses, and families throughout the state. I want to thank each of our local chamber partners for their continued friendship, support, and engagement as we head into the upcoming election season.

Georgia Transformer has been operating in Effingham County for over a decade, and on Tuesday, I was honored to join them in celebrating the groundbreaking of their facility expansion.

This project will bring 400 new, good-paying jobs to hardworking Georgians across House District 159. I’m grateful for Georgia Transformer’s continued commitment to Effingham County, and I look forward to the positive impact this expansion will have on Southeast Georgia for generations to come.

It was great to be with Senator Max Burns and so many friends at the Screven County Republican Party meeting last night.

The General Assembly delivered strong, conservative results this year, and I was grateful for the opportunity to highlight our progress and share what’s ahead as we continue building a strong future for Georgia.

Dayle and I want to congratulate our grandson, Jon David, on a successful senior season on the Gators soccer team, as well as our granddaughter, Ava, for winning first place in the 4x400 relay at the region track meet.

Please remember all those impacted by wildfires across the state in your prayers this weekend. Do not hesitate to reach out to me if there is anything I can do to support you during this difficult time for our state.

God bless,

Speaker Jon Burns
