HD -159 PRIORITIES

Education

Investing in our citizens through improved educational opportunities that follow our students from preschool to college and technical schools to building a strong work force will ensure a bright future for us all. Fully funding our public schools while providing strong support to Ogeechee and Savannah Technical Colleges, as well as Georgia Southern University, is vital to our quality of life in Southeast Georgia.

Agriculture

Agriculture is the life-blood of our communities.  Bringing over 70 billion dollars to our state, agriculture is the number one economic engine for the state and provides food and fiber to the world. Agriculture is a part of our heritage that we never want to lose in House District 159, and even more importantly, want to maintain for future generations.

Economic Development

Supporting new industries, growing businesses, and creating jobs is what bolsters economic growth throughout our entire state.  Republican leadership has kept Georgia the number one state in America in which to do business for seven years running.

Transportation

With the uncertainty of federal funding for transportation, our legislature took aggressive, groundbreaking action in 2015 to secure $10 billion for 10 years for our state's transportation systems. We can no longer simply build new, bigger roads for future prosperity. The future of Georgia lies at the intersection of surface road improvements and increased transit infrastructure, which will be unique to both rural Georgia and our metro regions.

Healthcare

Healthcare will continue to be of major importance, especially in our rural portions of the state.  Location should not determine whether you can see a doctor, fill a prescription, or live a healthier life.  Telemedicine and increased residency slots, combined with the Georgia Heart Fund are priorities that support our healthcare availability.

Natural Resources

Georgia has a rich legacy of environmental stewardship and outdoor recreation. We have made great strides in our efforts to combat soil erosion and pollution across our state and enact landmark legislation like the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Act.
