Honoring our Heroes on Memorial Day

Dayle and I are wishing each of you a safe and happy Memorial Day.

Throughout the course of our nation’s history, countless American heroes have given their lives in defense of the freedom we all love and hold dear. This weekend, as we gather with our families and loved ones, let us remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep the hope of democracy alive here at home and across the world.

Earlier this week, I was honored to join the Screven County Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion to honor our local heroes who gave their lives while serving our great nation.

Georgia’s Energy Leadership

On Monday, Georgia Power and the Public Service Commission announced an agreement to freeze base electric rates through 2027, keeping more money in the pockets of Georgia families and shielding our citizens from the effects of inflation and recent severe weather events on energy costs.

Georgia has led the nation with an all-of-the-above approach to providing reliable, sustainable, and affordable energy to the citizens, businesses, and communities across our great state.

Thanks to the dedication of our utility providers and the Public Service Commission, ratepayers can expect consistent energy costs for at least the next three years—further solidifying Georgia’s standing as the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

Standing with Israel

On Wednesday, two Israeli Embassy staff members were shot and killed during a Jewish event in Washington, D.C.

Despicable acts of evil and antisemitism like this have no place in our nation. Our Israeli brothers and sisters are facing heightened discrimination across the globe, so now more than ever, it’s critical that we continue to offer our unwavering strength and support to our strongest ally in the Middle East as they defend their freedom and sovereignty.

Our prayers remain with the families and loved ones of the victims as they mourn this unimaginable loss.

I hope each of you has a great holiday weekend. Have fun and stay safe!

God Bless,
Speaker Jon Burns
