Georgia Pre-K Week + PSC Elections

Each October, we celebrate Georgia Pre-K Week and recognize the progress we’ve made to increase opportunities for early learning. This year, Dayle and I were excited to visit with students from across the district to teach them about the importance of reading for their future success.

We read several of our favorite children’s stories to Pre-K classes at Springfield Elementary and Guyton Elementary, and enjoyed the opportunity to engage with our incredible educators who are committed to providing every student with a strong foundation for learning.

We know that an early start in education improves both academic and social outcomes for our children. That’s why the Georgia House was proud to allocate nearly $22 million in this year’s budget to support our Pre-K teachers and paraprofessionals, as well as increase access to Pre-K education in all 159 counties across the state.

St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital Recognized for Excellence in Nursing

Earlier this week, St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital was recognized by the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals for its six-time achievement of Magnet Excellence Designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s rigorous assessment for this prestigious recognition involves evaluation of several different areas, including resource and staffing levels, professional autonomy of nurses, fundamentals of quality nursing care, interprofessional relationships, leadership availability and responsiveness, professional development, and nursing teamwork and collaboration. I’m proud that St. Joseph’s/Candler outperformed the national standard in each of these categories.

Here in Georgia, we’re blessed with world-class medical facilities that strive for excellence in patient care, and the House looks forward to continuing our work to expand access to quality care in every corner of our state.

Early Voting Opens Next Week for the Georgia Public Service Commission

States across the nation are experiencing soaring energy costs, threats of rolling blackouts and brownouts, and an increasing demand for reliable, sustainable energy. Our story is different here in Georgia thanks to the leadership of our Public Service Commissioners.

Georgia’s PSC has fought for customers and consumers by freezing our energy rates well below the national average for the next three years, all while encouraging growth and investment that has strengthened our energy grid and positioned our state as a leader in providing clean, reliable, and affordable energy.

Commissioners Fitz Johnson and Tim Echols have led the charge to do just that, and I encourage you to get out and cast your vote for them ahead of the November 4th General Election, starting on October 14th.
