Community Healthcare + Literacy Reform
Dayle and I had a great week at home in the district, visiting with constituents, community healthcare providers, and local leaders to discuss everything from literacy reform to local healthcare accomplishments.
Effingham Health System
On Tuesday, we joined Dr. Fran Witt and leaders from Effingham Health System to learn more about the incredible work they are doing to expand access to quality, affordable healthcare for citizens across our district and Southeast Georgia.
From last year’s groundbreaking of a new medical complex in South Effingham that will serve patients for generations to come, to their innovative school-based telemedicine programs that provide care to children and families close to home, Effingham Health System is leading the way in strengthening healthcare access and improving outcomes throughout our region.
We are grateful for the leadership of Effingham Health System and their continued investment in the health and well-being of our communities.

Metter Rotary Meeting
Dayle and I were honored to be invited to the Metter Rotary Club’s meeting on Wednesday to share more about Georgia’s landmark Early Literacy Act of 2026 alongside Superintendent Bubba Longgrear.
This historic legislation takes bold action to address Georgia’s literacy crisis and ensure every child has the opportunity to learn to read. The legislation invests over $100 million to place a literacy coach in every K-3 elementary school, provide teachers with the tools and resources they need to succeed, and better prepare future educators to teach reading from day one in the classroom.
Reading is the foundation for the future of our children and our entire state. We need strong leadership at the state level to help us implement this life-changing legislation for students across Georgia, which is why I hope you will join us in supporting Bubba Longgrear for State School Superintendent during early voting or on Election Day.
You can find your early voting precinct by visiting mvp.sos.ga.gov.

Let’s continue working together to build a better, brighter future for House District 159 and all of Georgia. I hope to hear from each of you soon.
My best,
Speaker Jon Burns
