International Paper Closures
I was deeply disappointed to learn of International Paper’s permanent closure of the Savannah containerboard mill, the Savannah packing facility, and Riceboro Timber and Lumber. As a timber farmer myself, I understand firsthand the challenges of facing changing markets and economic instability. These mill closures will undoubtedly deal a devastating blow not only to Georgia’s timber industry but to the economic fabric of the entire Southeast Georgia region.
As I always say, with great challenges come great opportunities. Thankfully, Southeast Georgia has attracted historic growth and investment, with over 27,000 new jobs flowing into our region over the last several years. The Technical College System of Georgia and the Georgia Department of Labor stand ready to help those impacted by the plant closures with skills training, resources, and education for available employment opportunities.
I, along with each member of our delegation in the House, remain committed to working tirelessly with our state leaders, federal partners, and timber producers to navigate this difficult transition, secure new employment opportunities for the hundreds of citizens impacted by the closures, and safeguard the long-term strength and viability of Georgia’s timber industry.

Annual Chairmen’s Agriculture Summit
I was excited to join House Agriculture Committee Chairman Robert Dickey and Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Russ Goodman at their annual Agriculture Summit at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry.
It was a great time of fellowship with Georgia’s farmers, advocates, industry leaders, and experts as we discussed our success and the challenges that lie ahead. The House has always stood behind the hardworking men and women who put food on the tables of families across the nation, and we look forward to ensuring Georgia’s #1 industry remains successful for generations to come.
Strengthening Early Literacy and Children’s Healthcare
Dayle also had the opportunity to meet with several organizations and constituents this week. As a former elementary school educator and principal, Dayle remains passionate about childhood wellness and early literacy. She was honored to join Wellstar Children’s Hospital of Georgia to film a promotional video highlighting their exceptional work providing care to families and children across the state.

She was also excited to deliver books to a second-grade student she had the pleasure of meeting earlier this summer in Waynesboro. After learning about Amani’s love for reading, Dayle partnered with a local author, Nicole Rodewolt, and Waynesboro Mayor, Chick Jones, to gift Amani an assortment of books to enjoy at home.

Working for the citizens of the 159th district and the great state of Georgia is one of my greatest honors, and I’m humbled by the continued friendship and support of the constituents I have the privilege of serving each day.
Please know that I am always available to help, so never hesitate to reach out if there’s anything I can assist you with. The House will be laser-focused on supporting the families and individuals impacted by the International Paper closures across Southeast Georgia until each citizen has an opportunity to get back on their feet.
