Back to School
Back-to-school season is here for students, teachers, and parents across the state! Thanks to the Georgia House’s dedication to strengthening education, students are stepping into their classrooms with a strong foundation for success.
Our children are our future, and their future begins in our classrooms. That’s why the House has fully funded public education, raised teacher pay to keep the best and brightest in our schools, expanded Pre-K for our early learners, strengthened school safety, invested in literacy, and increased mental health resources for students. Check out some of the legislation we passed this year to support Georgia’s students:
$14.7 billion to fully fund Quality Basic Education
Over $68,000 to every public school for school security measures
$19.6 million for every public middle and high school to receive a mental health support grant
$15.3 million to support economically disadvantaged students
$22.7 million to strengthen literacy outcomes across the state
Promoting a distraction-free learning environment by banning cellphones in K-8 classrooms
Protecting girls’ sports
Dayle and I are wishing all of the incredible educators and children throughout our great state a wonderful school year ahead!
My best,
Speaker Jon Burns
