Tax Relief for Hardworking Georgians
During the 2026 Legislative Session, Georgia House Republicans worked to deliver meaningful relief for hardworking families by fighting to let Georgians keep more of their hard-earned money where it belongs—in their pockets.
House Bill 463, the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Act of 2026, delivers historic, responsible tax relief by cutting the state income tax rate to 4.99%, with a pathway to further reduce the rate to 3.99%. This bill also increases standard deductions for individual taxpayers and families, expands tax relief for seniors, and adds new benefits for Georgians earning tips and overtime.
Beginning in 2026, standard deductions will increase to $15,000 for single filers, $30,000 for married couples filing jointly, and $5,000 for each dependent. In addition, the standard deduction for seniors will increase significantly from $65,000 to $70,000. These measures alone will save Georgia families millions of dollars.
The House was also committed to supporting Georgians in every community across the state who depend on tips and overtime for a significant portion of their annual income. For the first time, we worked to create a state income-tax exemption specifically for qualified tips and qualified overtime. Beginning in tax year 2026, Georgians who earn tips or overtime can exempt up to $1,750 of qualified tips and up to $1,750 of qualified overtime when calculating their net taxable income.
By 2026, Georgia households will see their state income tax liability reduced by 30–55%, and once the income tax rate reaches 3.99%, those savings are expected to grow to 50–95%. HB 463 is a significant step forward in Georgia’s ongoing efforts to address affordability and deliver meaningful tax relief to families across the state, but our work is far from over.
House Republicans will continue working to advance additional cost-saving measures, including stronger property tax relief, greater access to affordable healthcare, and policies that make homeownership more attainable for Georgia families.
My best,
Speaker Jon Burns
