Tort Reform + Augusta University

After the conclusion of the legislative session, Governor Brian Kemp has 40 days to either sign legislation into law or veto measures passed by the General Assembly. It’s a busy time of year as I travel the state and attend bill signing ceremonies alongside Governor Kemp and my fellow House members.

This week, we gathered at the Capitol for a historic day under the Gold Dome as Governor Kemp signed into law the largest package of lawsuit reform legislation our state has seen in nearly two decades. The House worked diligently on these measures, hearing over 15 hours of testimony from Georgians on both sides of this issue to ensure the final legislation we passed took a balanced and measured approach to rein in frivolous lawsuits.

I'm proud of the work done in the House to return balance to our courtrooms and stability to our insurance markets—all while upholding the rights of individuals with legitimate claims.

Celebrating Matt Brinson’s Dedicated Service to Planters EMC

On Monday, I was honored to present Matt Brinson with a resolution on behalf of the Georgia House honoring his 48 years of dedicated service to Planters EMC and the greater southeast Georgia community.

His leadership has left an indelible mark on Planters EMC and the citizens and communities it serves, and I’m grateful for all he has done to uplift rural electric services and strengthen access to reliable, affordable energy throughout our region.

Congratulations on your retirement, Matt. I wish you all the best in this exciting new chapter!

Investiture of Augusta University’s President

Dayle and I had the opportunity to gather with leaders from across the state to celebrate the investiture of Dr. Russell Keen, Augusta University’s newly selected president. Augusta University is critical in training and educating the future leaders of our state, and the programs they offer provide countless opportunities for Georgia students.

I can think of no one better suited to carry the mission of Augusta University forward. Congratulations to Dr. Keen!
